Using Poser Figures In Bryce |

This tutorial deals specifically with Daz's Millennium figures, since they are some of the more complicated models available, (i.e. if you can handle these, the rest shouldn't be a problem). I'm going to use Micheal for the purposes of this tutorial, but the principles are the same for Vicky.
NB: The tutorial uses the default Michael model and textures supplied by Daz. The picture opposite was created using custom textures, but used all the same techniques detailed here.

Right then, open poser and create your figure. For simplicity's sake, I'm not going to bother with clothes, but if you are including them, obviously you add them now! |

So you pose your figure however you want. There's no need to bother with the lights or even textures. If you apply the textures in Poser, they will export to Bryce, but will require almost as much work as no textures. I generally don't apply textures in Poser. When you're done, export as a Wavefront .OBJ. Of all the formats supported, this is the most compatible with Bryce. |

Open Bryce. Go to File > Import Object... Navigate to your .OBJ and load it in. This may take a while on older systems, or if there's lots of clothes models included in the file. Eventually the model will appear and look like this. .OBJ's exported from Poser appear ready-smoothed in Bryce. First we'll do a couple of things in preparation. Imagine that sphere and box are an immensly complex scene that you have already made in Bryce. We don't want anything else confusing us while we work on the figure, so we will "solo" it. |

Make sure just your figure is selected, and click the little green button (at point A). If you can't see it, you have the animation controls displayed - click the button at point "B" to toggle back to Selection controls. Magically everything but the figure disapears! Now you won't select any of your scene by mistake. (Click it again if you want to bring everything else back). |

Now we're ready to do the textures. Go to the Materials Lab by clicking on the "m" next to the selected figure. Whether you textured him in Poser or not, he'll arrive in Bryce with 100% diffuse (texture or white), 100% black ambient and 100% specular highlight. Let's sort him out!
We'll start by texturing the whole figure with one material. This ensures that the diffuse, ambient and bump settings will be the same for all parts of the model. Ok, so the lab looks like this to start with...

...change the settings to the ones shown here, and use the body texture in channel A. Don't forget to create the alpha map! (If you'd like some more help with applying image based textures, there's a tutorial on it here). The Millennium figures have two main textures, one for the body and one for the head. You should be able to find the body texture by going to, C:/Program Files/Poser/Runtime/Textures/Zygote/ Characters/MilMan.
Special note to Bryce 3D users : You will have to rotate all your Poser textures through 180 degrees in the X axis using the material editor (the green button).
Once this is done, leave the Materials lab and return to your scene.
